Silica particles such as silica aerogel, nanosilica and hollow glass microsphere are well known as thermal insulation fillers because of their low thermal conductivity. Thus the effect of silica particle is studied on thermal insulation behavior of polyurethane (PU) films. For this study, series of PU matrix are prepared using hydroxyl-terminated poly(propylene glycol) and poly(tetrahydrofuran) prepolymers with isophorone diisocyanate. This work is focused on effect of particle size and volume fraction on thermal insulation behavior of thermal insulating silica particle-filled PU composites. Thermal conductivity (k), as an important heat transfer property of materials, is measured by a transient plane method in order to identify the scientific principles and mechanisms of preventing thermal transfer. |
