The incorporation of superparamagnetic nanoparticles into microgels has provided interesting functionalities in many applications. In this study, we developed microgels having superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION). SPIONs are synthesized by coprecipitation method without a stabilizer. We can get particles that have 7-10 nm size distribution. First we make aligned fiber consisting SPION by electrospinning with a magnet against spraying solution. Second, sodium alginate solutions were sprayed onto the prepared fibers. To make ionic cross-liking, the fabric was soaked in calcium chloride solution, followed by removing unentrapped fibers. We confirmed that the particles reacted external magnetic fields and the narrow size distribution of microgels. The microgels containing SPION are expected to be used as micro-sized magnetic stirring bars. The particles can be also applied into microfluidic devices or cleaning filtration nano-membrane against fouling. |
