As the global climate crisis grows, many researchers have been studied the environmentally friendly alternative fuels. Higher alcohols, including C2-C4 alcohols, have received much attentions as alternative clean fuels and potential fuel additives. Higher alcohols were synthesized by catalytic conversion of syngas (from H2 / CO = 1) derived from natural gas. Methanol and higher alcohol share a common catalytic active site or intermediate. In this study, several Cu/ZnO/ZrO2 catalysts, promoted by alkali metal (Li, K, Rb, Cs), were prepared by different methods such as co-precipitation, precipitation, reverse precipitation and sol-gel for higher alcohol synthesis. The prepared catalysts were characterized by GC, BET, H2-TPR/TPD, XRD, N2 physisorption and SEM. To investigate the effect of ZrO2 support on HAS, the prepared catalysts were evaluated under 45 bar, H2/CO = 1, GHSV 4000 h-1, and 240-280 °C. |
