Surface cross-linking effect of super absorbent polymer (SAP) depending on the type of cross-linking agent |
초록 |
Super absorbent polymer (SAP) is a water insoluble cross-linked polymer, mainly used in sanitary articles such as diapers or sanitary napkins. This is due to the special properties of SAP, one of which is the ability to hold the absorbed water and the other is the ability to absorb water under a given pressure. These two properties have a trade-off relationship in which one is improved and the other is reduced. In fact, prior SAPs tend to have higher centrifuge retention capacity (CRC) but lower absorbency under load (AUL). However, AUL is very important because of the uses of SAP. Therefore, in order to improve AUL, we cross-linked the surface of SAP to improve its surface hardness when it has a certain absorption capacity. We did surface cross-linking using two different types of cross-linking agents, ethylene carbonate (EC) and ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDGE). In a result, AUL was higher when using EC than EGDGE, and higher when EC content was increased. |
