Mechanical and morphological properties of Polypropylene (PP) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) blends were studied. Styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer grafted PP (PP-g-SAN) was used as a compatibilizer. Blends of PP, ABS and PP-g-SAN were prepared by melt mixing in a twin-screw extruder. From the result of impact strength of PP/ABS blends by ITR2000 with notched Izod method, it observed that 80/20 wt% portion of PP/ABS blends was good strength with the addition of the 3 phr PP-g-SAN. From the result of the SEM analysis of the PP/ABS (80/20 wt%) blends with PP-g-SAN, it was observed that droplet size of ABS was decreased with the addition of the 3 phr PP-g-SAN. From the result of rheological properties, complex viscosity of the PP/ABS (80/20 wt%) blend increased with the addition of the 3 phr PP-g-SAN. From the result of the mechanical, morphological and rheological properties of the PP/ABS blends, it suggested that the PP-g-SAN is an effective compatibilizer in the PP/ABS blends. |
