제목 Swelling of Bentonite in Single-Species Salt Solutions in different Temperatures and under Different pH Values
초록 In this experiment, swelling behavior of sodium bentonite in NaCl, KCl, CaCl2 and MgCl2 solutions of 0.1mol/L and distilled water were used under room temperature (approximately 16°C), 30°C, 40°C, 50°C and 60°C with maintaining pH values around 7. Swelling volume of was measured by direct reading the cylinder scale (in ml) in every 24 hours. In addition, the effect of pH on bentonite swelling was investigated in HCl (1<pH<6) and NaOH (8<pH<12) solutions and swell volume was recorded till to a constant level. Swelling volume is depending on the physical form of bentonite and cation of permeant liquid. Higher temperatures gave the higher swelling volumes and quickly came to constant levels of swelling in all the experimented cases. The ase of 3>pH and pH >11 give greater influence on increasing and decreasing of swelling volume in powder and granular bentonite respectively.
