Plasmonic Photoanode with Cobalt-based Oxygen Evolving Catalysts for Solar Water Oxidation |

Recently, plasmonic nanostructures have been investigated for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water oxidation due to stability and photoactivity to visible light via surface plasmon resonance. However, plasmonic nanostructures incorporated with co-catalyst have not been actively studied despite short lifetime of photoexcited carriers and inherent difficulty of water oxidation. Here we report multilayered plasmonic photoanode containing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and TiO2 nanoparticles (TNPs) incorporated with a Co-based oxygen evolving catalyst (Co-OEC). Photoexcited holes are extracted to participate in water oxidation mediated by Co-OEC. The photoanode is characterized by changing the amount of AuNPs and TNPs. |
