Ni(HBTC)(4,4’-bipy): A mixed linker pillared layer MOF for the CO2 fixation via cyclic carbonate synthesis |
초록 |
Metal-organic frameworks (MOF) are a class of crystalline materials made from organic struts that bridge metal centers or clusters. The efforts invested in capturing CO2 using MOFs would only be further justifiable if a viable technology that facilitates CO2 transformation to value added products can be extensively commercialized. The conversion of CO2 to cyclic carbonates via cycloaddition with epoxides is a 100% atom economy reaction. In this work, a microporous MOF Ni(HBTC)(4,4’-bipy) has been synthesized and its synergistic catalytic activity with a co-catalyst containing strong nucleophilic anion has been studied for the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides. The structure of Ni(HBTC)(4,4’-bipy) consists of honeycomb grid layers built by Ni2+ ions and BTC groups, and are linked by 4,4’-bipy pillars to form a 3D highly porous framework. The cycloaddition reactions were performed under different reaction conditions by using various epoxides with and without the aid of co-catalysts. Significant conversion of various epoxides was obtained with excellent selectivity toward the desired five-membered cyclic carbonates. Scope of various parameters including recyclability was studied. |
