Polystyrene/MWCNTs nanocomposites filled with functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) preprepared and characterized using rheological and morphological measirements to investigate how the surface treatment of MWCNTs affect the CNT dispersion state. MWCNTs were grafted with polystyrene (PS) by covalent attachment of PS chains to MWCNTs. The grafting was accomplished by the reaction of 4-vinylaniline with carboxylic acid groups previously attached to the MWCNTs. The multi-walled carbon nanotubs were treated with Nitric acid and sulfonic acid to obtain the carboxyl acid groups of MWCNTs (A-CNTs) and reacted with 4-vinylaniline to obtain PS/A-CNT nanocomposite films with enhanced thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. The functionalized MWCNTs were characterized through FT-IR and EA. |
