제목 | Effect of Hydrostatic Pressure on Gold Nanoparticle Location in Polystyrene-block-poly (n-pentyl methacrylate) copolymer |
초록 | Recently, a closed-loop phase behavior was observed in polystyrene-block-poly (n-pentyl methacrylate) (PS-PnPMA) where the LDOT and UODT form the lower and upper bounds of a closed-loop. Because the closed-loop phase behavior is related to no strong interaction, the two transitions are strongly dependent on pressure. Increasing pressure enhances greatly the miscibility between PS and PnPMA blocks. And incorporating nanoparticles into a polymer matrix can have a significant impact on a wide range of material properties. In this study, we observed the gold nanoparticle location in PS-PnPMA under pressure. For a copolymer, we use symmetric PS-PnPMA copolymer (Mw=46,110 g/mol) with fully ordered structure. PS-coated gold particles are synthesized by Brust method using thiol terminated PS (Mw=1,500 g/mol). The polymer-nanoparticle composites are prepared in toluene with 10wt% PS-coated gold particles. After evaporating solvent, the composites are annealed at 120oC for 1day. To investigate of pressure on the location of gold particle, the pressure is added at the composite. For pressures higher than 4000psi at 130oC, PS-PnPMA loses the clopsed-loop phase behavior. |
