Odor discrimination is a challenging research subject for key applications in the fields of disease diagnostics, food safety, and environmental monitoring. Here, we demonstrate high-performance human-like bioelectronic nose (B-nose) based on plasma-treated bilayer graphene conjugated with an olfactory receptor. The B-noses behave as flexible and transparent sensing devices owing to their excellent mechanical properties. Moreover, the stable p- and n-type behaviors from modified bilayer graphene (MBLG) were implemented by controlled oxygen and ammonia plasma treatments. Liquid-ion gated FET-type B-noses showed ultrasensitive and highly selective responses to the target molecule (amyl butyrate; AB). Importantly, the minimum detection limit (MDL) was as low as 0.04 fM (10−15; signal-to-noise: 4.2). Additionally, the B-noses have long-term stability and excellent mechanical bending durability in flexible system. |
