Although noble metals (NMs) deposited-C3N4 has been successfully used for photocatalytic reduction, its applications in photocatalytic oxidation are few. In this study, we synthesized MCA C3N4 and compared bare- and NM deposited-C3N4 for the photocatalytic H2 generation (for reduction) and degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and furfuryl alcohol (FFA) (for oxidation) under visible light (λ > 420 nm). Firstly, we confirmed that different reactive oxygen species (ROS) were generated depending on pH. The generation of OH radical and singlet oxygen was markedly decreased in the presence of NMs. Contrary to the result of photocatalytic H2 generation, the photocatalytic degradation of 4-CP and FFA with NM deposited-C3N4 was lower than that with bare-C3N4. The effect of NMs and pH for the photocatalytic oxidation by C3N4 is clearly different from that by metal oxide photocatalysts. |
