Graphene is one-atom thick, layered two-dimensional atomic crystal with sp2 carbon atoms in the honeycomb crystal lattice. It has unique physical properties such as high carrier mobility, mechanical strength, elasticity, superior thermal conductivity and Young’s modulus. Edge-functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (EFGnPs) can be simply produced by ball-milling graphite. The process leads to various functional groups at the edges of EFGnPs such as carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid and many others. In this work, thiol groups were introduced to yield edge-thiolated graphene nanoplatelet (TGnP), which was used as stable platform for the immobilization of the platinium nanoparticles (PNP). The resultant PNP/TGnP showed the high electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells. |
