Influence of oxyfluorinated carbon fiber on mechanical behaviour of epoxy composites reinforced with carbon nanotube |

A fixed amount (3phr) of various types of carbon fiber powder (different condition of oxyfluorination) was incorporated in an epoxy matrix with carbon nanotube (CNT) to solve the key issues like interfacial adhesion and dispersion of CFP. The surface properties of oxyfluorinated CFP were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and contact angle analysis (CAA). Also, to discuss in detail, the mechanical properties of epoxy composites were evaluated by tensile and impact strength, respectively. The mechanical properties of epoxy composites with oxyfluorinated CFP and CNT showed ~112%, 35% enhancement in tensile and impact strength compare to those of neat epoxy. These results are ascribed to improved interfacial adhesion between CFP and epoxy resin by increasing surface-polarity due to oxyfluorination and higher partial pressure of fluorine gas. |
