Multilayers fabricated by the layer-by-layer self-assembly method with oppositely charged polyelectrolytes have attracted much attention because of the well-defined nanostructure and the easy creation of functional thin films. For example, multilayered thin films having electrically or optically active functionalities were successfully fabricated by incorporating conducting polymers, organic dyes, and semiconductor nanoparticles into the layer-by-layer self-assembly. In this presentation, we will demonstrate the controlled light emission from two different fluorophores located at the separated layers in the spin-assembled thin films. The mutual distance between two fluorescent dyes was adjusted by the spacer of pure polyelectrolyte layers. Since the two dyes capable of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) were employed, the regulation of mutual distance by the spacer enabled or restricted the FRET from light-absorbing donors to energy-taking acceptors. |
