제목 The preparation and characterization of flower like magnetic (Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3 and α-Fe2O3) iron oxides for heavy metals removal from water
초록 Heavy metals released into the surface and ground water has attracted much attention for many years because of their increased discharge, acute toxicity and non-degradable nature. In this study, removal of heavy metals from artificially contaminated water has been investigated by flower like iron oxides (Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3 and α-Fe2O3) nanoparticles. The samples were prepared by using ethylene glycol mediated process followed by altering the calcination conditions. All the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and the morphology was examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The FE-SEM images showed that all iron oxides were of 3D flower like shape and approximately 3.6 μm in diameter. Magnetic properties of the as prepared samples were investigated by using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The batch experiments were carried out for the removal of Pb+2, Cr+6 and Cd+2 ions from aqueous solutions by nanoparticles. The results suggested that flower like iron oxides nanoparticles are promising candidate adsorbents.
