Removal of heavy metal ions from wastewater is matter of great importance because of their toxic effects on human health and on the natural environment in general. Schiff bases that are built of nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms are well known for their very good selectivity towards complexion of transition metal ions and low affinity to alkali and alkaline earth metal ions. In this work, we have investigated the fabrication and characterization of functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles with Schiff bases obtained in condensation of 2-acetylpyridine and 4-aminobenzoic hydrazide in large-scale. The structure and surface properties of the mesoporous nanosphere is studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption-desorption measurement, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), transmission electron (TEM), and termogravimetric analysis (TGA). The adsorption of metal ions onto the mesoporous silica nanocontainers was dependent on the chemical interactions and chelating effects. |
