제목 Continuous Diffusion of Essential Oil from Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles
초록 Essential oils (EOs) exhibit a wide range of pharmacological properties including antimicrobial, antibiotic, and antiviral activities. However, EOs can be volatilized and oxidized in a short period of time. Here, we report mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) for delivery and continuous diffusion of EOs. The EO isolated from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree oil) could be loaded efficiently into the MSN through hydrophobic interaction and the loading efficiency was 27% of total EO. The amount of residual EO was measured for 20 days without closing cover at room temperature. Free EO was volatilized by approximately 30%, whereas 86% of the EO loaded into the MSN remained still after 10 days. Three-quarters of free EO was volatilized for 20 days. In contrast, over half of the EO into the MSN remained for the same time. Thus, it is concluded that the MSN are a useful vesicle for continuous diffusion of EOs for a longer time.
