Kinetically and thermodynamically controlled rod-coil block copolymer micelles in selective solvent |

Block copolymer can self-assemble in a selective solvent to yield a variety of different morphologies such as sphere, cylinder, lamellae and vesicle, depending on the block ratio, solvent selectivity or temperature. Additional factors including the chain rigidity can bring about more diverse morphologies of block copolymer micelles. In this work, we investigated the micellization behavior of rod-coil block copolymer containing poly(3-hexyl thiophene) (P3HT) in mixed solvent. The shape and size of micelles were found to strongly depend on the block ratio and solvent selectivity/composition of mixed solvents. The morphological change was monitored as a function of time. Nanoparticles that can act as potential electron acceptors were added to block copolymer solution and self-assembled structure in selective solvent was investigated by TEM and AFM. |
