Liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) has the ability to store hydrogen under ambient conditions. When N atom is introduced into LOHC compounds, the dehydrogenation reaction occurs more efficiently. This, however, has an adverse effect on the Gibbs free energy of hydrogenation. Therefore, it is necessary to find a highly efficient catalyst for the hydrogenation of N–containing LOHC, e.g., 2–benzylpyridine. Among various noble metals used in hydrogenation reactions, Ru was known to be the most efficient and cheapest. Among several Ru precursors Ru3(CO)12 has the higher Ru dispersion. In this study supported Ru catalysts using Ru3(CO)12 as a Ru precursor were prepared and applied for the hydrogenation of 2–benzylpyridine. |
