Defects in zeolite membrane reduce separation performance of the membrane. We investigated a post-treatment method that improves the separation performance of the zeolite membrane by blocking defects in the membrane with dye molecules. The dye molecules are larger than the pores of the SSZ-13 zeolite membrane and smaller than the defects. Therefore, the dye molecules selectively block defects in the zeolite membrane. Therefore, permeation of gas molecules through non-selective pathways reduced. As a result, the CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 separation performances of the SSZ-13 zeolite membrane increased. In the case of gas containing H2O molecules in the feed gas, H2O molecules are adsorbed on the surface of the SSZ-13 zeolite membrane. As a result, H2O molecules reduced the permeation of gas molecules. However, the adsorbed H2O molecules blocked some defects in the membrane, the separation performance of the zeolite membrane increased. |
