A study was performed on dynamic mechanical properties of poly(styrene-co-methacrylate) ionomers containing salts of mono-carboxylic acids. The addition of salts led to a significant decrease in modulus and the cluster glass transition temperatures, while a slight decrease was observed in matrix glass transition temperatures, with increasing amount of the salts. Thus, it was concluded that the salt additives acted as polar plasticizers. Interestingly, these results were quite different from the results published in similar system.
