Cross-linked Poly(arylene ether ketone)s (CPAEKs) with pendant quaternary ammonium groups were synthesized via a direct step-growth polycondensation reaction to prepare anion exchange membranes for alkaline fuel cell. N,N-Dimethylethyleneamine and 2-Bromoethylamine was employed to react with PAEKs containing carboxylic acid groups activated and cross-link the membrane. The pendant quaternary ammonium groups were introduced and alkalinized to enhance ion conductivity of the membranes. The chemical structure of cross-linked quaternary ammonium poly(arylene ether ketone)s hydroxyde (CQAPAEKs-OH) synthesized was confirmed by 1H NMR and FT-IR. The differential DSC was used to characterize the thermal properties of the membranes. The anion conductivity, water uptake, ion-excgange capacity (IEC), mechanical properties of the CQAPAEKs-OH membranes were investigated for their application in alkaline fuel cells. |
