Poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, was modified by the cross-linking agent. To manufacture the PBS foams with closed-cell structure, the storage shear modulus of the matrix polymer should exceed the loss shear modulus, thereby stabilizing growing bubbles. The complex viscosity of the crosslinked PBS increased, and it exhibited a rubbery behavior as the content of the cross-linking agent was increased. The rheological data suggested that the viscosity and elasticity of PBS could be regulated by adding a small amount of the cross-linking agent. The PBS foams with closed-cells were prepared using a chemical blowing agent (CBA) which acted as cell nucleating agents. The effect of the foaming conditions and the cross-linking agent content on the blowing ratio and the morphology of the expanded PBS foams were investigated. Adding more than 2 phr CBA produced PBS foams with a closed-cell structure of high blowing ratio under the optimum condition. |
