Cylindrical polymer brushes can control size and conformation because of forming extended chain conformations, based on the intramolecular excluded-volume interactions between densely grafted side chains. In this study, we synthesized hybrid nanocylinders by atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) for fabricating hybrid material containing inorganic core and cylindrical brush arms. Well-defined coil-b-brush copolymer poly(acetic acid)-b-{p(2-(2-bromopropionyloxy)ethyl metacrylate)-g-p(butyl acrylate)} was synthesized via grafting from method using ATRP. The synthesized cylindrical polymer brushe was characterized by GPC, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy. To prepare hybrid nanocylinders, we followed two different synthetic approaches. The first approach is in situ reduction of gold ion via coordination of carboxylic acid group with metal ion. Second one is coupling of amino modified gold nanoparticle with pAA-b-brush. The synthesized hybrid nanocylinders were characterized by AFM and TEM. |
