제목 | Electro-optical switching behaviors of monodisperse PMMA/fluorinated liquid crystal microcapsules prepared by solute co-diffusion method (SCM) for a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) |
초록 | A fluorinated LC has widely used in a liquid crystal display (LCD) due to their quick response time, higher dielectric anisotropy, broad nematic mesophase and low viscoelastic ratio.1-3 In this study, the fluorinated LC was encapsulated into the PMMA particles by using solute-co diffusion method (SCM) to produce a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC). The fluorinated LC was completely swollen into the substrate particles by controlling the medium solvency. In addition, the size of uniform LC domains was controlled with ease by the amount of fluorinated LC. Monodisperse PMMA/fluorinated LC microcapsules and uniform mononuclear LC domains in the microcapsules were performed after solvent evaporation as shown in Figure 1 (a) and (b), respectively. The optical response time as a function of applied voltage would be enhanced due to uniform LC domains and the higher dielectric anisotropy of fluorinated LC compared to the cyano-based nematic LC (E7) microcapsules.4,5 Figure 1.
