Removal of radioactive elements existing in water has been considered important in industrial and medical field because radioactive materials are very toxic and have carcinogenic influences on living organisms. By nuclear power plant accident occurred in Fukushima, Japan, many radioactive elements were released and cesium, one of them, has contaminated aquatic environment. For removal of cesium, Prussian blue (PB) has been widely used but it has some drawback that it is difficulty in post-treatment following application because of its microcrystalline structure. To solve this problem, we used resin as matrix of PB and prepared resin for removal of cesium. At first, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) was adsorbed in hydrophobic resin, and resin had negative charges on their surface. PB was synthesized on the surface of resin with charge. Using this resin to which PB attached, we conducted cesium adsorption and the results were confirmed through ICP-MS analysis. |
