N-doped graphene (N-graphite), which was synthesized by a simple solution casting of edge-selectively functionalized graphite, films deposited on the FTO with an e-spray technique exhibit high electrocatalytic activity for the Co(bpy)33+/2+ redox couple in acetonitrile electrolyte solution. The N-graphite films are superior to the platinum catalyst, both in charge-transfer resistance (exchange current density) and in electrochemical stability under prolonged cycling potential. The good electrochemical performance of N-graphite as the cathode is readily applicable for dye-sensitized solar cells with OHx-Flu-InT-sensitized TiO2 photoanodes and Co(bpy)33+/2+ as the redox couple. The dye-sensitized solar cell with N-graphite cathode is superior to that with the Pt-FTO cathode particularly in short circuit current and in power conversion efficiency at one sun illumination. |
