A series of amphiphilic graft copolymers, poly(aspartic acid) grafted with dodecyl chains (Pasp-g-C12) with different degree of substitution (DS) were synthesized, and their aggregates with various morphologies in aqueous media were prepared by a direct dissolution method. In this study, the multiple morphologies of Pasp-g-C12 in aqueous media were investigated as a function of DS of the dodecyl chains, which are related to hydrophobic/hydrophilic ratio. TEM images clearly revealed that the morphologies of aggregates in the aqueous media are dramatically changed with DS, from spherical micelles to wormlike micelles, and finally to vesicles. In case of vesicles solution, there was a phenomenal increase of viscosity because of the formation of networks, and their rheological behaviors were investigated by ARES rheometer. |
