Catalytic removal is a promising strategy to simultaneously remove NOx and toluene in one catalytic system, which is economic and has recently attracted a lot of interest. NH3-SCR is used as a well-established method for NOx removal. Activated carbon used to remove NOx has insufficient SCR activity, preventing its commercial utilization. An effective way to increase SCR activity is to introduce nitrogen into carbon. Nitrogen doped carbon (NDC) is favorable for the adsorption of NO and followed oxidation to NO2, which benefits toluene oxidation. In addition, Mn/Ce oxide is reported as an eminent catalyst for toluene oxidation. Our research aims to investigate toluene oxidation in presence of NO and NH3 using Mn/Ce loaded NDCs. Mesoporous NDC was prepared by calcination of a mixture of raw materials composed of glucose (C source), melamine (N source), and porogen (KCl and ZnCl2). Physicochemical properties of the prepared NDCs were characterized using the techniques of XPS, SEM, TEM and FT-IR. NDCs are expected to enhance the NOx and NH3 adsorption and aid the oxidation of NO to NO2, resulting in the active conversion of NH3 to NH2. |
