제목 Surface Modification of Carbon Black Using Various Fatty Acids And Subsequent Solution Polymerization of Styrene
초록 Carbon black has excellent properties such as heat and chemical resistance, and electrical conductivity. It is widely used as a filler and pigment in plastic and rubber industries. However, unmodified carbon blacks aggregate easily due to their small particle size, thereby, large inter-particles interactions. Therefore, it is important to finely disperse carbon black aggregates to use in various applications. To obtain finely dispersed carbon black/polymer composites, conducting in-situ polymerization in the presence of carbon black with monomer is a promising technique. However, a low conversion is often resulted since raw carbon black acts as a radical scavenger in radical polymerization. Herein, carbon black was chemically modified using various fatty acids including stearic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid. The modified carbon black was subsequently used in solution polymerization to achieve polystyrene-encapsulated carbon black.
