Cigarette filter waste through KOH activation is used to prepare porous carbonaceous materials with large surface area and pore volume in a facile process under N2 conditions. The temperature and time for heat treatment are changed to obtain high porosity and surface area of the porous carbon. The BET data show that porous carbon (r-PC) has a surface area and pore volume of 1303.00 m2/g and 0.7 cm3/g, respectively. The TGA data suggest that the sulfur loading within the porous carbon structure is about 60%. The XPS and EDS data show that r-PC contains TiO2 within the carbon structure, which facilitates the adsorption of lithium polysulfide, and prevent the shuttle effect that causes sudden death of battery cells. |
