Various micro- and nanostructures of PPy have been reported. Especially, one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures including nanowires or fibers, rods, and tubes have been studied with an expectation for a conductor in nanodevices. To date, various methods have been developed to fabricate polypyrrole nanofibers or nanowires: most of them are based on using either ‘hard’ templates, such as anodized alumina (AAO), zeolites, and polycarbonate membranes, or ‘soft’ templates, such as surfactants, micelles, and large organic dopant anions. However, these methods commonly require harsh synthesis conditions such as strong acidic condition and low temperature, and the excess supporting materials of both ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ templates make the process complex, high cost, environmentally burdening, and the product of low purity and low yield. Herein we propose a simple and environmentally friendly one-step chemical synthesis route to the production of polypyrrole nanofibers. |
