A three-dimensional, mathematical model for two-phase flow dynamics in polymer electrolyte fuel cells has been developed based on the unsaturated flow theory (UFT) and the mist flow model, and is validated against the average polarization curve experimentally measured. In this study, we mainly focus on performance of the fuel cell system in accordance with various GDL contact angles. From the results, the performance of the fuel cell improves with the increase of contact angle. Because as contact angle increases, GDL becomes more hydrophobic and liquid saturation decreases, which means decrease of mass transport limitation by flooding. |
