Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube (MWNT)/Thermoplastic Polyester Nanocomposites |

The MWNT/thermoplastic polyester(TPE) nanocomposite films were prepared by blending of modified MWNTs and TPEs in tetrachloroethane (TCE)/phenol mixture. To enhance the chemical compatibility between MWNTs and TPEs, MWNTs were functionalized with 4-ethoxybenzoic acid via a Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction in polyphosphoric acid (PPA) to afford ethoxybenzoyl-functionalized MWNT (EtO-MWNT). The EtO-MWNTs were first dispersed in (TCE)/phenol mixture and the TPE was dissolved to have homogeneous mixture. In comparison with pristine MWNT/TPE and EtO-MWNT/TPE nanocomposites that prepared the same process, , there was a great difference between pristine and modified MWNTs in terms of the homogeneity of dispersion from the morphology study with scanning electron microscopy EtO-MWNT, which is soluble in TCE/phenol mixture, displayed better dispersion while pristine MWNT did aggregation. The thermal stability and electrical conductivity of the MWNT/TPE nanocomposites are under investigation |
