Vinyl-type Polymerization of Polynorbornene Dicarboxylic Acid Dialkylester |

Norbornene can be polymerized by ring-opening metathesis, cationic, and vinyl-type polymerization, and the vinyl-type polymer has good thermal stability, high transparency and low dielectric constant. However, it has low solubility, and poor mechanical and adhesive properties. In this work, norbornene dicarboxylic acid dimethylester and norbornene dicarboxylic acid diethylester were polymerized as a vinyl-type by Pd catalyst without cocatalyst. The polymer shows good solubility in general organic solvents and good thermal stability to 350 ℃. No glass transition temperature was detected by DMA, DSC experiment prior to the onset of decomposition at 350 ℃. In conclusion, polymer solubility and adhesive property were improved by introducing polar group, while preserving the good thermal stability. |
