제목 Effect of Surface Fluorination on Wettability of HDPE
초록 High-density polyethylene (HDPE) has been fluorinated and oxyfluorinated for different times of 0, 10, 30, and 60 min. Contact angle analysis was used to determine the effect of fluorine/oxygen gas mixtures on the surface wettability of HDPE. The total surface tension of HDPE increased with increasing the oxyfluorination treatment time, but leveled off after longer treatment time. And, the fluorination resulted in a marked decrease in the total surface tension of HDPE. The dispersive components of the surface tension decreased progressively with fluorination time, while the polar component increased initially and then decreased again with longer treatment time. This tendency indicated that a short fluorination time led to an increase of the wettability by polar component, while longer fluorination time exhibited the opposite effect. Also, the fluorinated and oxyfluorinated HDPE surfaces were exposed to elevating temperatures up to 100℃. It was found that the fluorinated surfaces changed reasonably, while the oxyfluorinated surfaces changed dramatically at a temperature over 80℃. This was probably due to the migration of surface polar groups into the bulk of the polymer rather than chemical changes.
