제목 Controlled Polymer Hybrids with Ladderlike Polyphenylsilsesquioxane as a Template via the Sol-Gel Reaction of Phenyltrimethoxysilane
초록 Recently, much attention has been focused on organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites based on various structures of silsesquioxanes. In particular, polyphenylsilsesquioxane (PPSQ) consisting of a siloxane ladder structure has excellent thermal stability, oxidative resistance, and mechanical strength. In addition, PPSQ has good electric insulating properties, selective permeability to gases, and excellent solubility in some mild solvents such as acetone, benzene, tetrahydrofuran and toluene. One effective method for hybrid materials is a sol-gel process with inorganic precursors, which undergo various reactions that result in the formation of a three-dimensional molecular network. However, because of the three-dimensional (random) network from uncontrolled polymerization during the sol-gel reaction, the resulting hybrid materials cannot be dissolved in any solvents, and this is a limitation for applications of material chemistry.

Here, we describe, for the first time, a new approach to the preparation of homogeneous polymer hybrids with reversible formation by the controlled polymerization of phenyltrimethoxysilane(PTMOS) with the ladderlike PPSQ as a template (그림 1). The resulting polymer hybrids were obtained through the sol-gel reaction of PTMOS controlled by the rigid structure of PPSQ as a template. The transparent polymer hybrids could be reversibly dissolved in the solvents and cast again, because PPSQ inhibits the formation of three-dimensional silica gel and led to one-dimensional growth by the sol-gel reaction of PTMOS. The key point of our method is using the rigid structure of PPSQ as a template and π-π interactions between phenyl groups of PPSQ and those of PTMOS.
