Respectable energy conversion efficiencies (∼12%) have been achieved for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) employing organic liquid electrolyte that consists of I-/I3- redox couples and volatile solvent. However, the leakage and evaporation of liquid components from such cells have been suggested as the main factor limiting the long-term stability of the DSSC. In this work, therefore, novel polymer gel electrolytes (PGEs) including various redox couples have been developed for efficient and long-term stable DSSCs. Especially, the physicochemical properties of PGEs were shown to be successfully adjusted by employing proper organic solvents and functional additives (for improving the solubility and transference number of redox species etc.).
