A transparent, hard organic/inorganic hybrid coating system was prepared by a sequential process involving the UV curing of commercially available acrylate end-capped oligomeric resins followed by the thermal condensation of inorganic component at 120℃ for 12h.. The hybrid precursors were spin-coated on polycarbonate substrates to form 4~13㎛ thick films, with no cracks. As the inorganic SiO2 content increased, higher miscibility of hybrids without phase separation was produced, which gave greatly improved abrasion resistance compared to pure organic coated specimens. The coating systems were investigated by 29Si-NMR, FT-IR and thermal analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements were used to characterize the film morphology and phase homogeneity on a nanometer scale, respectively. |
