Preparation of self-assembled monolayers with platinum-functionalized carbon nanotubes |

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are considered as one of the best examples of novel nanostructures as they have the most extreme diversity and richness among the existing nanomaterials both in structure and structure-property relationship. Self-assembling of monolayers of CNTs is the first step for the real device application. In this work, a platinum substrate is initially assembled with cysteamine. Self-assembled monolayers of oxidized CNTs with perpendicular orientation were obtained by surface reactions using carbodiimide chemistry. Additionally, the carboxy-terminated perpendicularly aligned CNTs were further reacted with functionalized platinum nanoparticles to yield novel supramolecular architectures which were characterized by AFM, SEM, TEM, IR, and XPS. This kind of assembly has a great potential for the development of novel bioelectronic systems. |
