Polymer-assisted Highly Stable Dispersion of Boron Nitride Nanotubes |

In order to take advantages of the functional BNNTs, a technically simple, mass producible, and economically viable methodology for highly stable dispersion of BNNTs in solvents needs to be developed. In this work, we propose a facile and chemical reaction-free method for the preparation of highly concentrated BNNT solution by using physical adsorption of polymeric dispersing agent (PDA) on the surface of BNNTs. The excellent dispersion stability of the solution was systematically characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, turbiscan, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, the physical adsorption-driven wrapping of PDAs on BNNTs was confirmed by the combination of high resolution TEM and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) mapping. Our method for highly stable BNNT dispersion is expected to provide a facile pathway for the fabrication of composite materials and boost up the research interests using BNNTs. |
