Graphene Oxide-Polyimide nanocomposites with Enhanced Mechanical Properties via Chemical Cross-Linking |

We prepared Graphene oxide(GO)/ Polyimide(PI) nanocomposite films via chemical cross-linking using small amount of divalent metal ions. The PI composites of graphene oxide nano-sheets presented enhanced mechanical properties. It is caused by the presence of fully exfoliated graphene oxide in the PI composite films. The hydrogen bonds between poly(amic acid)(PAA) and GO suppressed the phase separation between PI and GO and enhanced mechanical properties. In addition, the introduction of small amount of alkaline earth metal ions also enhanced mechanical properties of the composites due to the chemical cross linking between GO and PAA. The small amount of alkaline earth metal ions can bond between oxygen functional groups and carboxylate groups of the garaphene oxide and the PAA which is the precursor of the polyimide. Also it increased the mechanical properties via chemical cross-linking. |
