Organic-inorganic hybrid materials have received extensive interests and been a main way of new electronic and optical materials. In this study, three types of hybrid composite films based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/α-methoxy-bis(γ-trimethoxysilylpropyl)aminopoly (ethylene glycol) (TMSAEG)/silica, PMMA/α-methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG)/silica and PMMA/TMSAEG systems were prepared by the in situ sol-gel reaction from mixtures of PMMA, tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), MPEG and TMSAEG in tetrahydrofuran. A method to prepare the organic-inorganic hybrid is mixing an organic polymer with a silicon alkoxide such as TEOS followed by sol-gel process involving hydrolysis and polycondensation of TEOS. Three types of hybrid nanocomposites were prepared and their morphology, thermal properties and electrical, mechanical properties are discussed using FT-IR, GPC, DSC and TGA. For morphology measurements, scanning electron microscopy was applied. X-ray diffraction and infrared analyses showed that the crystalline structure of PEG, which is a parent polymer of TMSAEG, was not changed much by the addition of silica, indicating that there was no interaction between PMMA and silica. With increasing silica content, the melting temperature rarely changed, but the degree of crystallinity decreased. |
