Novel Conjugated Polymers Containing Both Electron-donating and Electron-withdrawing Moieties: Preparation and Device Applications |

With the growth of organic and polymeric electronics, importance of new polymeric materials usable for such electronic devices becomes emphasized more and more. We report novel alternating conjugated polymers containing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing moieties. The polymers were thermally stable up to 400 oC, and their good solubility in common organic solvents makes them suitable for solution-processing which is essential for wide device applications. Band-gap tuning of the polymers was achieved through alternation of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing moieties, and consequently, the emission color of the polymers could also be controlled. The PLED devices making use of these polymers showed high brightness, and their EL spectra were in good agreement of their film PL spectra. In addition to PLED, organic solar cell device was also fabricated using the polymers as electron donors and fullerene as an electron acceptors. Synthetic details, characterization results, and device characteristics will be discussed in this presentation. |
