The covalent attachment of polymers to the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) can be achieved by either “grafting to” or “grafting from” method. The latter approach, in general, involves the polymerization of monomers from suitable initiating groups on the surface of MWNTs. In this study, a facile method for preparing polymer-grafted MWNTs with high graft yields was successfully developed by using thermo-induced free radical graft polymerization from photo-induced surface initiating groups on MWNTs. The grafting products were characterized using FE-TEM, SEM, TGA, and Raman spectroscopy. |
