제목 Synthesis of 16- and 18-membered thiacrown-4 ethers for selective adsorption of gold and silver ions
초록 Mono and di-hydroxy functionalized 16- and 18-membered thiacrown ethers (thia-CEs) were synthesized by intermolecular cyclization of bulky epoxides with 1,2-benzenedithiol. The bulky epoxides were prepared from etherification of 5-bromopentene and allyl bromide with pinacol followed by epoxidation of their terminal alkenes. Synthesis of thia-CEs were optimized by varying the reactant concentrations, reaction time and temperature. They are highly selective towards Au3+ and Ag+ ions. Batch adsorption experiments will be carried out and thia-CE regeneration will be done via acid treatment. Thia-CEs have the potential as effective Au3+ and Ag+ sequestrants.
