The last several decades have witnessed the rapid development of anion exchange membrane fuel cell (AEMFC) that generate energy. AEMFC enhanced electrochemical kinetics of oxygen reduction reaction and the use of inexpensive non-platinum electrocatalysts, both of which are rendered by the alkaline medium. However, despite significant progress, the development of practically useful AEMs still remains a major challenge. Recently developed AEMs commonly contain a heteroatom linkages in the polymer main chain, which are chemically unstable and easily degradable by hydroxide ion. Therefore, to overcome this issue, our group designed a robust polymer backbone. Specifically, polymer main chain containing a quaternary ammonium group were synthesized via superacid-catalyzed condensation reaction and in-situ quaternization, successively. In particular, ion exchange capacity, ion conductivity of AEM affecting cell performance were measured, and also tested alkaline stability. |
