Nanocarbon materials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene nanosheets are fascinating materials for applications in energy devices in terms of the eletrical conductivity, the mechanical durability, the specific surface area, and flexibility, etc. However, the However, one of the key technical challenges in NC material science is to overcome the difficulties associated with processing such NC materials for further applications. Unfortunately, unless the NC materials are highly functionalized with oxidative moieties or are shortened using ball milling, they agglomerate irreversibly at weight concentrations >1.0 wt% because of their high aspect ratio (>500) and strong van der Waals attraction, making further processing difficult. In this talk, I will present the recent progress in solution processing of nanocarbon materials by oxidation and functionalization. Their application in energy related devices such as solar cells and supercapacitors will be introduced |
