Bumpy Structured Donor-Acceptor Interfaces via Polymer Blend for Efficient Bilayer Polymer Solar Cells |

Bilayer polymer solar cells based on sequential deposition of donor and acceptor layers have received reignited interest as a straightforward strategy for fabrication of polymer solar cells. Here we demonstrate a facile methodology to fabricate bilayer polymer solar cells with controlled heterojunction structure by using simple polymer blends. Phase separation of poly(3-hexylthiophene) / insulating blend film allows us to achieve a bumpy structure of donor layer and sequential deposition of [6, 6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester as electron acceptor layer formed an abrupt heterojunction interface. Interpenetrating donor-acceptor interface caused by bumpy structuring exhibited significant enhancement of power conversion efficiencies compared to that of the cells with typical flat interface, which is mainly attributed to the increase of photocurrent. |
